“Got To Be The Most Idiotic Person” – Karan Johar Slams Trolls Calling Alia Bhatt A Nepo Kid
Karan Johar has been on the receiving end of trolls and hatred for a long time for launching star kids through his production house. Time and again, the filmmaker clarified the same and tried to draw people’s attention to the fact that he associates himself with newcomers and people outside the industry as well. Now, once again, Karan spoke about the criticism he faces. In an interview with Galatta Plus, he spoke about the backlash Dharma Productions’ Nadaaniyan received. The film marked the debut of Saif Ali Khan‘s son Ibrahim Ali Khan, but it failed to impress the audience and critics alike. Karan said that he is trolled for producing the film, but no one remembers how he also collaborated with outsiders, such as director Neeraj Ghaywan, who is not from the film industry.
He said, “Hating on Nadaaniyan became fashionable. The more you hate on it, the more videos you put out, the more engagement you will get. People are loving nepo kid bashing, and I am like ‘move on.'” He continued, “There are people who come now on podcasts, and I noticed, out of the blue, they’ll ask, ‘What do you think about Karan Johar?’ I mean, why? But that person also had an opinion. ‘No, I don’t want to meet him.’ I’m like, ‘I don’t know you.’ So this is a random podcast. Random podcast, random question, random answer. None of it has any relevance with my life. I don’t know anyone.”
Not just Nadaaniyan, Karan also slammed the people calling Alia Bhatt a nepo kid. The actress made her debut with Dharma Productions’ Student of the Year along with Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra. “Have you seen Highway? Have you seen Udta Punjab? Have you seen Raazi? Have you seen Gangubai? Just watch her films. If you’re still calling her a nepo kid, then you’ve got to be the most idiotic person on this planet. And no one can help you,” said Karan.
Denying the allegations that his production house favours only star kids, he added, “It is not true. Come look at our roster. Am I the face of Bollywood hate, and if I am, then ‘thank you’ for giving me this elevation. But do I deserve it? I don’t think so.”
